RALEIGH, N.C. — Governor Roy Cooper signed House Bill 199 into law, allowing North Carolinians the option for digital driver's licenses starting July 2025.
From Apple Pay to Google Pay, many of us also use our phones to keep up with things like concert tickets, airplane tickets, and even car insurance cards, but soon, that will include your driver's license.
HB 199 contains a digital license provision that allows people to decide whether they want a mobile license.
The DMV commissioner supports the idea, saying it's more secure than a physical card.
