'Gaia' exhibit brings out-of-this-world experience to Charlotte

The experience is like what astronauts have seen from the time they were on the moon during the Apollo missions.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Blume Studios is part of Charlotte's new Iron District, where the Charlotte Pipe and Foundry operated for decades until the company relocated to Oakboro

The studio will be home to major immersive experiences from around the world and locally created multimedia events and shows. It's a $2.5 million venue!

The very first event is free and it's known as "Gaia," a name from Greek mythology meaning the personification of Earth. Gaia is touring artwork by Great Britain's Luke Jerram. It measures about 20 feet in diameter with NASA imagery of Earth's surface. This very special artwork provides the opportunity to see our planet on this scale, floating in three dimensions.

The experience is like what astronauts have seen from the time they were on the moon. In fact, Earth hasn't been seen in its entirety since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.

Also, Blume Studios will debut "Space Explorers: The Infinite" featuring high-definition 360-degree footage and interactive elements exploring the Space Station. "The Infinite" will run through Nov. 10. This will give everyone a chance to experience the International Space Station, which is amazing, considering only 300 people have actually been there.

Blue Studios is located at 904 Post Street in Charlotte. Click here for more details about "The Infinite." All children ages 8-12 must be accompanied by a person age 14 or older.
