Person found dead after being shot in west Charlotte

It happened around 6 a.m. in an area just south of the Charlotte airport.

A person was found dead with a gunshot wound in west Charlotte on Sunday morning, Medic said. 

It happened near the intersection of Dorcas Lane and Steele Creek Road around 6 a.m. That is right near the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. 

The person was pronounced dead at the scene, in a grassy area where several police cars and an ambulance were gathered.

The person's body was found about 200 yards from the cemetery where a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer died by suicide earlier in July

WCNC Charlotte reached out to police for more information. The incident report states the person might have taken their own life.
