Wooden Robot reopens South End taproom Tuesday

Wooden Robot's taprooms had been closed since co-founder Dan Wade's tragic death at the South End brewery.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Wooden Robot Brewery reopened its South End location on Tuesday, one day after co-founder Dan Wade was laid to rest

Wade died after a fall at the brewery last week. Both Wooden Robot locations have been closed since the tragic incident, which led to tributes from across the Charlotte craft beer community honoring Wade's legacy. Wooden Robot's NoDa location will reopen Thursday, according to a post on the company's Instagram page. The South End taproom will be open from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wade founded Wooden Robot with his best friend Josh Patton in 2015. News of his death shook supporters, as well as other Charlotte brewers who were inspired by Wade

"A lot of breweries do owe their success to him specifically," Brad Maas, a brewer at Suffolk Punch, said. "Dan was a big part in crafting what the Charlotte brewery scene is today."

Wooden Robot  started a GoFundMe for Wade's wife and newborn son. Wade was also an uncle to six nieces and nephews and a dedicated rescue dog dad. The GoFundMe has raised nearly $200,000 by Tuesday afternoon.
