CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — It’s been all hands on deck in Chester and Lancaster counties after Tropical Storm Debby rolled through yesterday.
The storm brought heavy rain and flooding, leaving standing water, and debris, and causing widespread power outages in the area. Now that the storm has moved out of the area, officials and residents are left with a huge cleanup effort.
“We did have about eight traffic accidents that were related to the storm,” Ed Darby, the Director of Chester County Emergency Management, told WCNC Charlotte's Anna King. “Today the city is going around and they’re rechecking the storm drains because of the debris from the storm."
Chester County officials said it took multiple agencies to handle Thursday's storm damage, with more than 40 fallen trees and many residents going to sleep without power.
“This was a classic act of cooperation because all agencies did work together and that led to a successful operation,” Darby said.
The dam along the Catawba River Road has been closed due to rising water and officials say they had to open the gate to protect the infrastructure.
Some residents in Lancaster County also told WCNC Charlotte they’re grateful for some relief today because some roads and homes there saw major flooding.
