CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A CATS Blue Line station will be temporarily closed for maintenance.
The Charlotte Area Transit System announced Tuesday the Tyvola Park and Ride would close starting Thursday, Nov. 21. The announcement did not specify an exact date for reopening, only saying the Park and Ride would reopen once maintenance was finished.
Barriers will be in place to block off the entrances. CATS asks the public not to move them.
The Tyvola Park and Ride station is located along Old Pineville Road near Tyvola Road and South Boulevard.
Community members with questions or concerns can call CATS customer service at (704) 336-7433.
The closure of the Tyvola Park and Ride comes as construction begins at the Charlotte Transportation Center. The busiest transit stop for the system will see the bay shelter outside of it come down, and 15 express routes that normally stop there will temporarily pick up riders under the nearby bridge. The demolition will close both the sidewalk and the traffic lane next to the shelter.
Last week, CATS hosted two public meetings to discuss Blue Line light rail improvements, including design updates for a new Blue Line station along South Boulevard. The new train station stop will be located next to Publix there, between the New Bern and the East/West Boulevard station stops.
"It will also help with convenience for people trying to get to Publix, trying to get to Atherton and all the other destinations on the South Boulevard side," a CATS official said Wednesday. "Lots of apartment complexes and other things going on on the Hawkins side, but will also help during construction with our contractors being able to get materials across the tracks as well. That's a top priority."
