Deputies launch tip line to help piece together how missing York County man ended up dead miles from home

Detectives are asking for help figuring out how 26-year-old Zachary Thai Patterson ended up dead under a bridge.

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — More than three weeks ago, 26-year-old Zachary Thai Patterson of York, South Carolina was found dead in the Sharon community. But there are still questions about how he ended up there after being reported missing.

Detectives with the York County Sheriff's Office are now asking the public to help them put the pieces together.

A tip line has now been set up for anyone with information to call and provide details. Anyone can call (803) 280-6246 to share what they may know. Anonymous tips are also accepted online by the Crime Stoppers of York County.

Patterson was first reported missing to the Rock Hill Police Department on May 11, 2024. He was last seen in the Lesslie community at a mobile home park along Lesslie Road, near the Lesslie Fire Department. The case was transferred to deputies since it had been discovered the sheriff's office had jurisdiction.

Deputies ended up finding Patterson dead more than two weeks later, on May 31. He was discovered underneath a bridge in the Sharon community along North Burris Road near Traylor Road. At the time, the York County Coroner's Office said the cause and manner of Patterson's death remained under investigation.

Detectives are asking anyone with insight to speak up. They specifically are trying to figure out Patterson's movements during the time he was missing and how or why he ended up in Sharon, roughly 29 miles west of Lesslie.
