CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Appalachian State and Charlotte will face off in the 2025 Duke's Mayo Classic, the Charlotte Sports Foundation announced Thursday.
The matchup will be the fourth meeting between to the two schools. App State currently holds a 3-0 lead in the all-time series. Their most recent meeting as a 35-20 App State win in 2020. The announcement comes just days after the Charlotte Sports Foundation announced the Duke's Mayo Bowl will remain at Bank of America Stadium for the foreseeable future.
"We are thrilled to add this passionate regional rivalry to our upcoming slate of Duke's Mayo Classic games," Danny Morrison, the executive director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation, said. "We believe the atmosphere in the Queen City will be electric and both the Mountaineers and 49ers will be well represented."
This will be App State's second appearance in the Duke's Mayo Classic. The Mountaineers defeated East Carolina in 2021. They're also scheduled to face Wake Forest in 2027. This is Charlotte's first appearance in the annual kickoff classic.
Since its inception in 2015, the game has featured Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia. Tennessee and NC State will meet in Charlotte next year.
