CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The 2024 Duke's Mayo Classic between the Tennessee Volunteers and N.C. State Wolfpack will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
This will be the second time Tennessee has played in Charlotte's kickoff game. The Volunteers defeated West Virginia in what was then known as the Belk Kickoff Classic in 2018. N.C. State last played in Charlotte in the 2022 Duke's Mayo Bowl. September's matchup will be just the fifth meeting between the two programs. Tennessee won the most recent matchup back in 2012.
The Volunteers and Wolfpack both open their seasons on Aug. 31. Tennessee opens with Chattanooga, while N.C. State's first game is against Western Carolina.
The Vols are coming off their successful two-year span in two decades under head coach Josh Heupel. Tennessee won nine games in 2023 and finished the year with a dominating 35-0 performance over Big Ten West champion Iowa in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl to finish No. 17 in the final polls.
The Wolfpack finished 2023 with a 9-4 record. Dave Doeren's team was defeated by Kansas State in the Pop Tarts Bowl and finished No. 21 in the final AP poll.
The 2025 Duke's Mayo Classic has already been announced. App State will face Charlotte in the game. Tennessee is slated to play in the 2028 game against West Virginia.
