Game of the Week: Weddington vs. Chambers
In a second-round battle of local heavyweights, Weddington scored first on a Tyler Budge jump pass to Brooks Mauk to make it 7-0.
Then, after a Budge deep pass to Cam Allen, Nick Diamond ran for a score to put the Warriors up 14-0 at halftime.
Chambers responded with a field goal from Saul Moran and a touchdown run from Armon Wright to cut the lead to 14-10.
But Weddington would hold on by that score.
The Warriors will host Catholic in the third round of the 4A playoffs next week.
FINAL SCORE
Weddington - 14
Chambers - 10
Charlotte Christian vs. Providence Day School
Providence Day earned a chance to try for a state championship three-peat by defeating rival Charlotte Christian in Friday's NCISAA Division 1 semifinal.
The Knights led 7-3, but Chargers defensive back Cairo Skanes picked off a pass to set up the Chargers offense.
On a connection between future Michigan Wolverines, QB Jadyn Davis found Channing Goodwin in the end zone to put the Chargers up 10-7.
But the Knights drove the field, capped off by a Ryan Henly touchdown run, and felt like they had a solid 14-10 lead going into halftime.
That was until NC State commit Brody Barnhardt took the ensuing kickoff all the way back as time expired on the half to give the Chargers the lead.
That was the difference, and Providence Day will try to avenge a mid-season loss to Rabun Gap on the road next week in the title game.
FINAL SCORE
Charlotte Christian - 37
Providence Day - 45
