ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — NASCAR racing will return to Rockingham Speedway in 2025 more than a decade after hosting its last national touring series race.
NASCAR announced the Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series will compete at the track affectionately called "The Rock" on Easter weekend next April. It's the first time the Xfinity Series has raced at Rockingham since 2004, while the Truck Series last ran at the historic track back in 2013, with Kyle Larson taking the checkered flag.
"We've been talking about 'The Rock' for a few years now," Ben Kennedy, NASCAR's executive vice president, chief venue and racing innovation officer, said. "This one came through our partners at Track Enterprises, who have put on a number of our Craftsman Truck Series races over the past few years."
Kennedy said the success of several new events on the schedule, including the revival of legendary North Wilkesboro Speedway, played a role in bringing Rockingham back to the schedule.
"With the continued improvements the owners have been putting into the facility, and frankly, looking at the success of some of these new events, it felt like a good opportunity to go back," Kennedy explained. "Fans have been asking for a long time."
Daniel Lovenheim bought the track in 2018 and has spent the last few years working to lure NASCAR back to Richmond County. In 2021, the track received $10 million in COVID recovery grants from the state. Lovenheim used the money to repave the track, in addition to another $10 million out of his own pocket for facility upgrades.
In addition to Rockingham, the Xfinity Series will once again race in Mexico City as part of a companion weekend with the Cup Series on June 14.
With Rockingham back on the schedule, the Carolinas will now play host to four Xfinity Series races and five Truck Series races, including a playoff race on the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval.
