CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets announced plans for a performance center, which is designed to bring a world-class entertainment facility to the Queen City.
The plans were revealed on Tuesday and call for a 160,000-square-foot facility to be built near the Spectrum Center in Uptown Charlotte. The center will feature training spaces, team administration offices, and retail space.
The retail sites will be built on a public plaza near the intersection of Caldwell and 5th streets.
Gilbane Building Company and R.J. Leeper. are partnering with the Hornets to build the facility, which is planned to open ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.
"We’re excited to see the project team come together and the positive momentum for this project which will start to transform this part of Uptown by injecting needed retail and public gathering spaces, as well as helping to attract additional investment in Uptown,” City of Charlotte Assistant City Manager Tracy Dodson said."
The Hornets previously announced plans to build a new practice center and facility along with Spectrum Center upgrades in 2022. The city of Charlotte is contributing $30 million to the project with the rest of the funds coming from the Hornets.
