CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges will miss at least one game with a bruised right knee, the team announced on Thursday.
Bridges was hurt in Thursday's 108-107 win at home over the Detroit Pistons. An MRI revealed that Bridges suffered a bone bruise after hyperextending his right knee during the game. The Hornets ruled Bridges out for Friday's game against the Indiana Pacers. His status for any of the following games has not been released. The injury will be reevaluated in two weeks.
Bridges led the Hornets with 27 points in Thursday's game with 8 of 14 shooting from the field and converting all nine free throw attempts. He played through the fourth quarter.
Through Charlotte's first eight games, Bridges is third on the team with 14.6 points per game. He is second on the team in rebounds per game (6.8) and fifth on the team in assists per game (2.5).
The Hornets (3-5) are tied for eighth in the Eastern Conference. Charlotte ended a three-game losing streak with Thursday's win, which was capped by a Brandon Miller buzzer-beater.
Charlotte will need to avoid injuries to its star players to have a successful season. Hornets All-Star LaMelo Ball missed over 100 games in the last two seasons due to injuries. He's started all eight games this year. Rising star Miller has already missed four games this season.
