CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers fans saw their team with an all-new look in Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Panthers wore black jerseys with blue pants for the first time in franchise history. Carolina's black jerseys have historically been paired with either silver or black pants.
Blue pants are rare in the Panthers' wardrobe. The Panthers have only worn blue pants five times in the team's 30-year history, and two of those games were during the NFL's color rush craze in the mid-2010s. The Panthers wore blue pants with a white jersey for the first time during a 2023 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Carolina's blue pants have now appeared three times in 2024.
The Panthers have experimented a lot more with their look in the last half-decade than at any point in the team's history. Carolina has worn 10 different uniform combinations in its 12 games in 2024. In 2023, the Panthers wore a team-record 12 different uniform combinations. Comparatively, the 2017 Panthers wore just four different uniforms the entire season.
Since 2018, the Panthers have worn an average of nine different uniforms per season. From 1995 to 2017, the team wore an average of three different uniforms per season.
In 2022, the Panthers debuted an alternate black helmet with roaring applause from the fan base. The Panthers have worn the helmet three times this season, once in an all-black look, once in a black helmet-blue jersey-blue pants-black socks look, and once in a black helmet-blue jersey-black pants-black socks look.
The Panthers slightly updated the blue color on their uniforms in 2023. This was done to match the process blue color seen on the field at Bank of America Stadium. Carolina has stuck with its colors of blue, black, and silver since the team's inception in 1995.
