CHARLOTTE, N.C. — To paraphrase Taylor Swift a bit, we think we've seen this score before.
Charlotte FC hosted the Philadelphia Union at Bank of America Stadium Saturday night, aiming to tie the historical record between the two of them with a win. Instead, the scoreboard ended up looking a lot like it did last week when the black and blue took on the LA Galaxy: nothing on either side of it.
Philadelphia did try to get a goal in during the first half, but Kristijan Kahlina proved to be a formidable fortress in the goalie box. The only other major action taken before the end of the first 45 minutes was a yellow card handed to Philly midfielder Jack McGlynn.
After the break, another yellow card was handed to a member of the Union, this time defender Nathan Harriel.
But after that, not much else happened. Both teams shuffled the benches with a handful of substitutions, but in the end, the war of attrition ended in a nil-nil draw.
While the scoreboard had only zeroes in the goal column on both sides, Charlotte and Philadelphia do share a point to add to their MLS standings.
The black and blue hit the road Wednesday, May 29, to take on the New York Red Bulls. Kickoff in the Empire State is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.
Charlotte will aim to add another win to their record against the Red Bulls; New York has three wins, Charlotte has one, and they share two draws. Charlotte will also be looking for revenge from their last meeting in October 2023, where New York dominated with a 5-2 win that eliminated the black and blue from the postseason.
