IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — In light of the drought impacting the Carolinas, Iredell County residents are being asked to cut down on their water use.
Iredell Water moved into a Stage 1 voluntary water shortage condition on July 3. With that, customers are asked to reduce any non-essential use of water in case the drought remains or even gets worse.
"Iredell Water thanks our customers in advance for helping us protect our water supply before significant issues arise, and we hope that we all receive much-needed rain soon," the company said in a release.
In particular, Iredell Water customers are asked to:
- Repair leaks
- Limit washing cars at home
- Limit watering lawns, gardens and shrubbery beyond what's necessary for plants to survive
- Stop washing sidewalks, patios, parking lots and other similar outside areas
- Stop faucets from running while running dishes, shaving and other similar tasks
- Only use clothes washers and dishwashers when the machines are fully loaded
- Shower instead of running the bath, and limit showers to 4 minutes
- Reduce flushing toilets
- Reduce dishes by using disposable or biodegradable dishes when possible
- Use water-saving or flow-restrictive devices
- Limit use of water-cooled air conditioners
- When watering lawns or gardens, use hoses that have spring-activated nozzles
- Delay any new landscape work
Additionally, Iredell Water customers are being asked to limit using sprinklers or irrigation systems. People who live at odd-numbered street addresses can use these systems from Tuesday at 8 p.m. to Wednesday at 8 a.m. and from Saturday at 8 p.m. to Sunday at 8 a.m.
Meanwhile, those at even-numbered street addresses or unnumbered addresses can use their systems from Thursday at 8 p.m. to Friday at 8 a.m. and from Sunday at 8 p.m. to Monday at 8 a.m.
