CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Central Avenue in Charlotte's Plaza Midwood neighborhood reopened Friday after a month-long repair to fix a leaking pipe.
On February 7, crews responded to a wastewater leak in the 1300 block of Central Ave., which is located near the CSX Transportation railroad crossing. Charlotte Water crews also discovered a leaking water pipe.
For more than a month, the roadway has been closed while crews worked to repair and rebuild portions of the underground infrastructure.
Over the course of the month, crews installed new pipes on both sides of the railroad crossing, inspected wastewater pipes and pumps, and rerouted water away from the leaking water pipe.
During the course of the work, drivers could not use the usually-busy roadway.
This same section of roadway has a history of water main breaks and leaking pipes.
In 2022, portions of the roadway were closed due to a water main break.
In 2020, a large water main break required the repair a 12-inch water main and 24 feet of wastewater pipe at the same location.
