MATTHEWS, N.C. — A section of Monroe Road is closed in Matthews due to a deadly crash, officials said.
The crash happened between North Carolina 51 and Galleria Boulevard around 7:30 a.m. Multiple agencies are on the scene, including Matthews Fire and Medic. One person was killed and another was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to Medic.
A witness who was at a nearby QuikTrip gas station said the driver of a blue car pulled out into Monroe Road and was hit by an oncoming car. Investigators haven't released any further details on the crash.
Matthews Police said the road reopened around 10:30 a.m.
