Police identify man in fatal single-car crash in east Charlotte

Police said a man died after crashing into a power pole at the intersection of W.T. Harris Boulevard and Sharon Amity Road.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a fatal single-car crash that happened around 4 a.m Saturday in east Charlotte.

Police said a man died after crashing his 2008 Infiniti G35 into a power pole at the intersection of W.T. Harris Boulevard and Sharon Amity Road.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver has been identified as 31-year-old Glenville Walker.

Officers determined Walker was traveling south on East W.T. Harris at a high rate of speed. He came on to a left turn in the roadway, lost control of his car and ran off the right side of the road and the car overturned on to the roof.

Speed was a contributing factor in the crash and alcohol use was suspected, police said.

Duke Power was notified about the power pole and responded to repair any damages.

Eastbound East W.T. Harris was closed at that intersection while police worked to determine the cause of the crash.
