11-car crash causes I-77 northbound closure approaching Statesville

Three people suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to officials.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Interstate 77 northbound was closed in Iredell County because of multiple crashes involving 11 cars, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The crash occurred about a mile past Exit 45 for Amity Hill Road around 3 p.m. Multiple wrecks happened in the area at the same time, involving a total of 11 cars, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP).

Three people suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Lanes were closed on I-77 for over an hour as crews cleared the scene.

NCSHP is further investigating the crash.

Southbound drivers in Iredell County are also experiencing delays. 

This is the second interstate closure in the greater Charlotte area on Tuesday. Near Uptown Charlotte, portions of I-277 are closed after a truck dropped cargo onto the highway.
