Northbound I-77 reopens after crash in Statesville

The crash happened a few miles before Exit 49 in Statesville, NCDOT said.

STATESVILLE, N.C. — A stretch of Interstate 77 North is back open in Statesville due to a serious crash, officials said.

The wreck happened around 8:30 a.m. about 3 miles south of Exit 49 for Garner Bagnal Boulevard in Statesville. At one point, traffic backed up several miles into Troutman. The road reopened around 9:15 a.m.

Drivers can use North Carolina 115 and U.S. 21 as alternate routes around the crash. Drivers can then take Interstate 40 back to I-77 northbound.

It's unclear if anyone was hurt in the crash. WCNC Charlotte reached out to North Carolina State Highway Patrol for more information.
