IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — One person was killed in a crash involving a logging truck on I-77 in Iredell Count Wednesday morning, state troopers said.
According to Iredell County Communication, first responders were called to a crash in the northbound lanes of I-77 near mile marker 52, just north of the interchange with I-40 around 8:30 a.m.
According to troopers, a 2005 Toyota Scion passenger car was traveling northbound in the left lane and, according to witnesses, was driving erratically. The Toyota lost control, collided with the median guardrail, then traveled into the right lane in front of and colliding with a 1997 International tractor-trailer logging truck. Both vehicles traveled off the road to the right where the tractor-trailer overturned and lost part of the load.
Troopers report the driver of the Toyota, 27-year-old Henry Alexander Gonzalez Rodriguez, of Wilkesboro, died at the scene. The driver of the logging truck, 62-year-old James Edward Bodford of Mocksville was not injured. The truck was owned by Shaver Wood Products in Cleveland, NC.
Both drivers were restrained by seatbelts and there are no initial indications of impairment. No charges are expected, troopers report.
North Carolina Highway Patrol was called to assist with traffic delays and the investigation.
Highway Patrol has not identified the person killed or determined what caused the crash at this time.
