CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Airlines announced Thursday will it will begin offering direct flights from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to Athens, Greece, beginning in 2025.
Starting June 5, American will operate a daily flight from Charlotte to Athens International Airport. The new route is part of the airline's largest schedule from Charlotte to Europe in company history, a spokesperson said.
“As Charlotte’s hometown airline, we take great pride in the breadth of our network, and we are thrilled to break records in 2025 with more nonstop access to Europe than ever before,” Ralph Lopez Massas, American's senior vice president of Charlotte operations, said. “New service to Athens gives our customers the opportunity to experience the rich culture and cuisine of Greece, step back in time among ancient ruins and venture to the beautiful Greek islands."
Travelers can start booking tickets on Sept. 9 on American's website and app. Athens joins a lineup of eight European destinations offering nonstop service from Charlotte, including Dublin, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Munich, Paris and Rome. it's one of vie new routes to Europe that American Airlines announced on Thursday.
American Airlines says it will offer four daily flights to Greece from the U.S. next summer, providing more access to the country than any other airline.
