Severe Weather Preparedness Week for the Carolinas starts now!

From March 7th to the 13th we will learn about all the weapons severe weather has: Hail, high winds, lightning, flooding and of course tornadoes.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — MARCH 7TH - Intro

Severe weather comes in many forms and here in the Carolinas, our severe weather season is just days away from officially beginning. Anytime of year a single storm can become strong to severe here and produce frequent lightning, strong destructive winds, large hail and even tornadoes. 

So this week is our time to become mentally and physically prepared for the worst while we hope for the best. The following topics will be discussed this week.

  • Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes
  • Ways to receive severe weather alerts, and information about the Statewide Tornado Drill
  • Staying safe when high winds, hail, and tornadoes strike
  • Lightning safety
  • Flash flood safety
  • Make a plan and encourage others to do the same

The above topics were assigned by the the National Weather Service of Greenville-Spartanburg. 

A statewide tornado drill will also be taking place during this week as we collectively prepare for severe weather season.

Where: All of North Carolina

Severe weather can be serious but preventing any harm to yourself can be prevented from knowledge and knowing what to do when the severe weather strikes. We here on the WCNC First Warn Storm Team are here for you.
