CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The WCNC Charlotte Weather App has now been merged with the WCNC Charlotte News App. Viewers will still get all the aspects of the standalone weather app that they love, plus a few more features.
WCNC Charlotte Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich and the WCNC Charlotte Weather team will continue to produce a local forecast, which can be found in the main WCNC Charlotte News App.

Even better than the weather app, the WCNC Charlotte News App provides personalized severe weather notifications. If desired, users can opt into weather-only push notifications, and do not have to receive alerts for other news subjects. A user can even set multiple locations to receive alerts for, just in case they need them. Those features are only available in the WCNC Charlotte News App and were not possible in the previous weather-only app.
Beyond those personalized alerts for weather in the area, the WCNC Charlotte News App also provides live streaming weather coverage from Brad Panovich and the WCNC Charlotte Weather Team.
This was not possible in the weather app and was critically needed during severe weather events happening in the Charlotte-metropolitan area.
Every WCNC Charlotte viewer is our eyes and ears on the ground when severe weather hits. Now, in the WCNC Charlotte News App, viewers can view and share videos and photos of the storm in their neighborhood. Brad Panovich and the WCNC Charlotte Weather Team may even use those photos and videos on-air as part of severe weather coverage on all platforms.
It is because of all of these reasons the standalone weather app will be discontinued on Aug. 1. All weather content that was available in that weather app, plus the new features listed above, are available in the WCNC Charlotte News App, which has a blue logo when searching for it in the App Store.
WCNC Charlotte, Brad Panovich and the WCNC Charlotte Weather Team are all dedicated to bringing viewers real-time weather updates to keep their loved ones safe.
For those who want to voice their concerns about the discontinuation of the weather app, please call 704-729-3768 to speak with the Executive Producer of Weather James Brierton or 704-729-3757 to speak with WCNC Charlotte Digital Director Blair Shiff.
