CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The times are changing for Carowinds as the theme park announced Wednesday that three rides would be retired soon.
In a blog post, the park shared that Nighthawk, Scream Weaver, and Drop Tower would be retired. This comes after Six Flags Entertainment Company - the theme park's parent company - announced earlier in 2024 a $1 billion push to boost the guest experience over the next two years. That includes what the theme park promises to be a "record-breaking" water ride slated to start running sometime in 2026 and two more rides in the Camp Snoopy area in 2025.
The rides in Camp Snoopy will include Snoopy's Racing Railway - billed as a family launch coaster - and Charlie Brown's River Raft Blast - a water raft ride that sees up to eight guests board a boat that allows them to spray other riders. Camp Snoopy will also get new splash play zones and a meet-and-greet experience at the camp store in 2025. The experience will feature characters from the "Peanuts" comics and animated movies.
So far, details about the water ride set to launch in 2026 haven't been shared. Carowinds has promised to share more details in the summer of 2025.
"As we look toward the future, we have to make some tough decisions. To move forward and evolve sometimes we must step away from some attractions from our past," the park said in part in its blog post. "We know that saying goodbye to beloved rides can be difficult, and we appreciate your passion. These changes are an important part of our growth and underscore our commitment to elevating the park experience. We’re excited about the future, and we can’t wait to begin this journey with you at Carowinds."
Nighthawk launched at Carowinds in 2004 but was first set up four years prior at California's Great America. Scream Weaver came to Carowinds in 1993 after first getting its start at County Fair in 1979. Meanwhile, Drop Tower debuted at Carowinds in 1996.
The park did not provide a date for the rides' last runs.
