Second suspect charged in northeast Charlotte homicide

Jamotis Watkins is charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the incident.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A second teenager is facing charges related to a deadly shooting in northeast Charlotte earlier this month, detectives said.

Jamotis Watkins, 18, was arrested on Oct. 17, by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. He was wanted in connection with the killing of 22-year-old Derrick Answon Baker, who was found shot to death near the intersection of Tom Hunter Road and North Tryon Street on Oct. 3.

A second victim was found shot about a quarter-mile from where officers found Baker. That victim, who is under 18, suffered serious injuries. A third victim showed up at a nearby hospital about an hour later with minor injuries, CMPD said.
