UNION COUNTY, N.C. — District leaders at Union County Public Schools assured parents it's safe to send their kids to school after a series of threats were posted online.
In an email to parents, the district says it investigated the threats and found they weren't credible. However, district officials are asking parents to talk to their children about the consequences of making false threats. Students associated with false threats will face a 10-day suspension and could face charges.
In Iredell County, a student was charged with two felonies after allegedly posting threats to Lake Norman High School. The Iredell County Sheriff's Office said the student also implicated another student in a fake shooting at the school. The note was shared by students at several other schools in the district.
Numerous schools in the Carolinas have received threats in recent weeks following the Apalachee High School shooting. Two students were arrested in connection with threats in Cleveland and Gaston counties, while Cornelius police said they were investigating a possible suspect in Texas in connection with a bomb threat at Bailey Middle School.
