Crash involving garbage truck causes backups along I-85 in northwest Charlotte

The crash happened along southbound I-85 near Beatties Ford Road. Four people were taken to the hospital.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Four people were seriously injured in a crash involving a garbage truck on Interstate 85 in northwest Charlotte on Tuesday, Medic said. 

The crash happened along southbound I-85 near Beatties Ford Road around 9:30 a.m. At one point, three lanes of I-85 South were closed due to the investigation. Multiple vehicles were involved in the wreck, with two vehicles suffering heavy damage in the collision. 

Four people were taken to the hospital, according to Medic. One victim suffered life-threatening injuries and three others had serious injuries, the agency said. 

All lanes of I-85 reopened a little after 10 a.m. but there were residual traffic delays due to lingering backups.
