Crash causes delays on I-77 near Mooresville

All southbound lanes of I-77 were closed due to a crash near Exit 35 in Mooresville on Wednesday.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The southbound lanes of Interstate 77 are back open in Mooresville after a serious crash, officials said.

The wreck happened along southbound I-77 near mile-marker 35, just before the exit for Brawley School Road. All four southbound lanes were closed due to the crash.

Traffic cameras in the area showed multiple vehicles appear to be involved, including a box truck, which blocked at least two lanes. Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including Mooresville Fire-Rescue and Iredell County EMS.

NCDOT expected the road to be closed until around 10 a.m., but the crash was cleared shortly after 9 a.m.

Traffic was backed up nearly 2 miles toward Troutman due to the crash. Drivers can use U.S. 21 as an alternate route to I-77 south of the crash location. It's unclear if anyone was hurt in the crash. WCNC Charlotte reached out to North Carolina State Highway Patrol for more information.
