CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A pedestrian was hit and killed along Interstate 85 near Concord Mills Boulevard, officials said.
The crash happened on the southbound side of I-85 between the exits for Concord Mills Boulevard and Interstate 485 around 5 a.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Medic.
Southbound I-85 was closed for about three hours while crews worked to clear the scene and state troopers investigated the crash. Highway Patrol hasn't released any details on what led up to the wreck at this time.
At one point, traffic was backed up for several miles on I-85 with drivers using U.S. 29 as an alternate route to get onto I-485 and back to I-85.
The incident is one of at least three crashes involving pedestrians in the greater Charlotte area since Saturday:
